Why I'm dropping my comic box service after a year of letdowns

I signed up for a popular comic book box because I LOVED the idea. But the books were often DAMAGED, and the extras felt CHEAP. Customer help was SLOW, and I kept getting charged for stuff I didn't want. If you're thinking about trying one, read ALL the small print first. It's not worth the hassle when you can just pick your own comics.

That line about being "charged for stuff I didn't want" is the whole story now. It feels like every company switched to this subscription model where the goal is to make it a hassle to leave or to quietly bill you for extras. It's not just comic boxes, it's software, tools, even kitchen stuff. They sell the fun idea but the reality is you're locked into their system and the quality always drops once they have your card on file. I've given up on most of these services because you end up spending more energy managing them than enjoying them.

After they have your card, when does the quality drop?

I stuck with a snack box for months thinking the next one would be better, but it was just more stale crackers. Same with comic boxes, you keep hoping for that perfect issue but get bent covers and keychains that break in a week. Customer service takes forever, and then they act surprised when you complain about being charged for a 'special edition' you never asked for. I guess I'm a slow learner because I've signed up for three different services before I wised up. Now I just hit the local shop and pick what I want. No surprises, no damage, and my wallet thanks me.
