Spent $300 on a graded comic slab and I'm not sure it was smart
I bought a graded copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 for about three hundred bucks. The slab keeps it safe and it looks great on my shelf, which is a win. But some of my friends say slabbing is just a cash grab that takes the fun out of reading and sharing the book. They think I should have bought a cheaper, raw copy to actually enjoy. I see their point, but I also like having a verified, protected piece. What do you all think, is paying for a graded book worth it for a fan, or does it miss the point?

Gotta side with your friends on this one, it's just a comic book. Grant465 makes a fair point about collecting how you want, but paying that much to not read it feels like buying a fancy case for a toy you never play with. The whole slab thing seems to take the fun part out of owning it.

Totally get where you're coming from. That's a classic book to have slabbed, and wanting a clean, protected copy makes perfect sense. Your friends have a point about raw copies being more hands-on, but there's nothing wrong with collecting how you want. If you're happy with it on your shelf, then it was worth it.

...I mean, are we really acting like a $300 slab is some kind of life-or-death decision? It's a cool book, you like looking at it, and it's not like you're gonna be broke from it. People get way too worked up over how someone else spends their fun money.
