Pro tip: a guy at my local shop in Reno told me to stop bagging and boarding everything
I used to keep my whole run sealed up tight, until this older collector named Ray saw me doing it at the counter and said the books can't breathe and I'm missing half the fun of flipping through them. Now I leave the beat-up ones raw on a shelf by my desk and honestly I've reread them way more than the slabs. Anyone else keep a reading pile separate from the protected stuff?
The "books can't breathe" line is where Ray loses me. Paper doesn't need air, it needs low humidity and no light, and a bag and board actually helps with both. I get the rereading part though, and having a raw shelf by the desk makes sense for books you actually flip through. But I wouldn't call bagging a waste for the keys or the nicer copies. Keep the readers loose, sure, just don't let Ray talk you into pulling everything out of the bags.
