My local shop had one copy left of a big crossover event, and my friend wanted it too.

This was back in 2015, and it was the final issue of 'Secret Wars' from Marvel. We both got to the store on Wednesday morning, but there was only one copy on the rack. I picked it because I'd been following the whole story from the start, and he had just jumped in. I felt bad, but I bought it. He ended up reading my copy a week later anyway. Has anyone else had to make a tough call like that with a friend over a single issue?

Your friend jumping in late doesn't make his interest less valid. New readers are the lifeblood of comics and deserve a shot at big events. Grabbing it just because you started first was a selfish move.

Back in 2012, I waited three hours for a midnight release of a big comic event. The guy right behind me in line was a total newbie, just getting into the hobby. We ended up talking the whole time and he bought the last variant cover, the one I really wanted. I was annoyed for a second, but he was so excited about it that it didn't really matter. That book probably meant more to him starting his collection than it did to me adding to mine.
