My cousin told me to skip the '90s X-Men cartoon and just read Claremont's run
I finally watched the cartoon after 20 years and it's actually a great intro, especially for the Phoenix Saga. Has anyone else gotten weirdly specific comic advice that missed the mark?

My friend said the same thing about the Dark Phoenix movie, but the cartoon version hit way harder for me. Sometimes the "easier" version just clicks better, you know? People get so stuck on the "right" way to experience stuff.

But what if your cousin was right for a different reason? The cartoon is a fun intro, but it cuts out so much. Claremont's comics built up Jean and Scott's relationship for years before Phoenix, so the fall actually hurts. The cartoon just speeds to the big moments without that weight. Sometimes the "right" way is the one with all the pieces, even if it takes more work.
