Just realized reading comics issue by issue beats waiting for the trade
I used to be all in on waiting for trades. Cheaper, fits on the shelf, no ads, all that. But last month I read Jason Aaron's Thor run single issues first instead of the collected books and the whole thing hit different. Every issue ended on a cliffhanger and I actually had a week to sit with it and guess what came next. With the trades I just barreled through 12 issues in one sitting and half of it blurred together by the next day. It cost me more, like $4 an issue at my shop here in Milwaukee, but the waiting and the guessing is the fun part I was missing. Am I the only one who switched back the other way?
Reading issue by issue also keeps you talking to other people at the shop between drops, which trades kill since you finish in a night and have nothing to say. Half the fun of Thor was arguing with the guy behind the counter about where the story was headed. Monthly books turn reading into a shared thing again instead of a solo binge.
