Just had a weird chat at the local shop that made me think about gatekeeping
Honestly, this guy at the comic store in Dayton last weekend told me I wasn't a 'real fan' because I only read collected editions and not single issues, which is a pretty wild thing to say to someone just trying to enjoy a story.

What a weird thing to gatekeep. That guy sounds like he's more into the collecting than the actual stories. I get single issues are the original format, but trades are just way more practical for reading.

My brother gave me a trade paperback of Watchmen back in 2005 and it completely hooked me. I tried singles for a bit but found myself missing pages or forgetting story details between monthly releases. Now my shelves are mostly trades, and I actually reread stories instead of just storing boxes of floppies. The convenience means I spend more time enjoying the art and writing, which is the whole point for me.

Ever wonder if some collectors forget that comics are meant to be read, not just bagged?
