Found a weird trick for pressing my comic books flat without a heavy book

I tried stacking my long boxes vertically for three days after a friend said it would flatten warped covers, and it actually worked on about half of them. The weight of the books themselves pressing down evened out the bend without damaging the spine. Has anyone else accidentally fixed a comic this way or am I just getting lucky?

That's actually a solid trick. I did something similar by accident once. Stacked a bunch of old long boxes in the garage and forgot about them for a week. Came back and a few warped books from a humid summer were totally flat again. Works best if the covers are just a little bent, not creased or folded. Glad to hear it's not just me.

Respectfully disagree @danielwhite, time and weight can make it worse.

Did you have moisture absorbers or anything in the garage when you stacked them? I tried this with some old books that had slight bends in the cover, but I didn't keep the humidity in check and they actually got a little more warped after a few days. It seems like controlling the air in the room is just as important as the weight.
