Debate: Is collecting number one issues just a trap or a real milestone?
I just hit 50 number one issues in my longbox and it got me thinking - are we chasing these for the thrill of a first appearance or just feeding FOMO? Last week I found a 1991 X-Force #1 for a buck, and it made me wonder if these milestone numbers actually matter or if we're just fooling ourselves. What's your take - do first issues hold real value or is it all hype?

Hearing you say "real value comes from what you actually enjoy reading" is spot on, but I gotta push back a little on the part about the thrill wearing off. @abbyr96, those cheap finds like a buck X-Force #1 keep the hobby fun for me because they remind me that not every number one has to be a key issue to feel like a win. I say chase what you like and let the market hype be a bonus if it happens, not the main goal.

Keep chasing those number ones if it makes you happy, but remember that collecting is just like buying anything else we get hyped about. The thrill of finding a cheap old issue wears off fast when you realize everyone else has a copy too. Real value comes from what you actually enjoy reading, not from what the market tells you to want.
