Back in 2017 a guy at my local shop told me to bag and board every single issue

I remember John from Cosmic Comics in Portland told me to bag and board everything even dollar bin stuff. I thought he was just trying to upsell me on supplies. Fast forward to last year I pulled out some older comics and the ones I didn't protect had yellowed edges and bent corners while the bagged ones look near mint. Now I always bag everything right away, who else had that happen?

People are so quick to dismiss shop advice as just trying to sell you stuff (and yeah, sometimes it is), but I think there's a hidden factor nobody talks about: humidity. Even if you bag and board everything, if you live somewhere damp like I do in the Pacific Northwest, those bags trap moisture and can actually make things worse over time if you don't use fresh silica gel packs. I learned that the hard way when I found a run of late 80s X-Men with that musty smell even though they were bagged, because the bag itself held in all the seasonal humidity. So the real trick isn't just bagging everything, it's bagging everything AND keeping them in a room with a dehumidifier running. That dollar bin advice is solid, but only half the battle if you're not thinking about your local climate.
