Vent: The hipster cafe on Broad Street banned laptops after 2 PM
I get it, they want to create a vibe or whatever, but I went to The Grind House on Broad last week specifically to finish a project and the barista told me at 1:45 that I had to pack up in 15 minutes because they switch to "social hours." I mean, I saw like four other people on their MacBooks too, all of us scrambling to save our work and leave. I paid $6 for a latte and sat there for maybe an hour and a half before getting kicked out. That place is always packed with remote workers in the morning, so why not just warn us at the door or keep a section open? Has anyone else run into a cafe that pulls this kind of switch mid-day?

Maybe the real play here is that they're trying to actually get people to talk to each other instead of staring at screens, but they're doing it in the most annoying way possible with zero heads up.

10 bucks says the person who came up with this idea was the same person who sends emails titled "Let's Circle Back" instead of just walking two cubicles over. @wells.brooke , at least give us a warning before pulling the social experiment card.
