The $4 corner table trick that finally fixed my video calls from this busy cafe on 5th
I work from a little cafe on 5th near the park and the wifi there is fine but my video calls looked like a slideshow for weeks. Every client call I had, someone would say my face froze or my voice cut out, and I kept blaming the cafe's router. Last Thursday I moved from the middle of the room to this tiny two person table tucked in the back corner by the bathroom, and the calls went perfectly for two hours straight. I ran a speed test in both spots on the same afternoon and the corner gave me 45 down while the middle table was getting 12. Turns out the crowd of laptops and phones near the counter was choking the signal, not the connection itself. Now I show up around 8:15, grab that corner before anyone else does, and my whole day runs smoother. Has anyone else mapped out which exact seat in their regular spot has the best signal, or is it just me being weird about this?
My girlfriend says I have a sixth sense for dead zones but really I just keep moving seats until the little wifi bars stop mocking me. You're not weird, you're just doing what the rest of us do in shame.
