Serious question, did anyone else used to just grab any open table? I was in a spot in Austin for 2 hours before I realized the outlet was dead... now I always check the plugs first.

Honestly, that sounds like a lot of extra work. I just find a spot that looks good and deal with the battery later.

My old laptop battery lasted about 47 minutes, so I learned that lesson the hard way too. I started carrying a small power strip in my bag. It lets me test an outlet and also makes me popular when the place is crowded. Now checking for power is just part of the routine, like looking for a chair.

That power strip move is smart. I do the same thing. I always check behind the couch or under the table first. Some cafes hide their outlets. I also look for floor outlets near the walls. If I see someone else plugged in, I'll ask if the outlet works before I sit down. Saves a lot of hassle.
