Hot take: those 'quiet coffee shop' apps are a total scam

I got roped into paying $8 a month for one of those apps that claims to find silent, remote-friendly cafes with guaranteed outlets. Three weeks ago it sent me to a place in Austin that had a live DJ spinning at 2 PM on a Tuesday. The owner straight up told me they never signed up for the app. Has anyone else had these apps send you to total chaos?

yeah i had a similar thing happen with one of those apps in denver. it sent me to this "quiet study cafe" that turned out to be a barista training center with blaring espresso machines and people yelling orders. total nightmare. best advice i got was just use google maps filtered by "study" or "co-working" plus check the recent photos for crowded tables and laptops. also call ahead and straight up ask if they have outlets and quiet hours. saves you the subscription fee every time.

Is it really that big of a deal though? @finley777 I get the frustration but its eight bucks, not a house payment. Worst case you walk into a loud coffee shop and leave, takes two minutes. Live DJ on a Tuesday honestly sounds more fun than another boring quiet spot anyway.
