Got told my background noise was distracting at a cafe

I was coding at my usual spot, Brew Lab in Austin, and this guy leans over and says my mechanical keyboard clicks were driving him crazy. At first I was annoyed, but he pointed me to a quieter corner where the espresso machine drowns out the sound. Now I always scope out the noisiest part of the cafe before I settle in. Anyone else ever get feedback from a stranger that actually improved your setup?

Oh man, I used to be the opposite - I thought anyone complaining about cafe noise was just being picky. But then I realized some sounds really do mess with your focus, and it's not just about being polite or whatever. Now I actually look for the busy spots on purpose, because that background hum is way easier to tune out than one loud keyboard click.

Oh man, I feel this so hard. It's weird how specific sounds can just wreck your brain, right? Like that one loud keyboard click is way worse than a whole room of chatter. I used to think people were being dramatic about it too, but now I get it. It's not the volume, it's the randomness that gets you. Your brain can lock onto a pattern (like cafe hum) but a single sharp noise yanks you right out of the zone. Funny how we just learn these things about ourselves over time.

Yeah, that actually makes total sense now. Never thought about it that way before.
