Argument at a cafe in Medellin about noise-cancelling headphones

I was coding at a spot in Medellin last week and this girl said headphones make you miss the whole point of working from cafes... that you should hear the chaos. I think it's crazy, she thinks I'm missing out. Who's right here, do you tune out or tune in?

Wow she's totally missing the point, chaos just kills my focus.

Does she even work in a space where focus matters? Like has she tried to get anything meaningful done while people are talking over her and notifications are blowing up? Her take feels like it comes from someone who's never had to actually buckle down and finish something important.
