Am I the only one who thought paying $8 for a coffee shop day pass was a scam at first?
I saw a sign at this cafe near my apartment in Portland last month for an $8 day pass that comes with unlimited drip coffee and a guaranteed seat by an outlet, and my first thought was that it was a total rip off. I usually buy one $5 latte and nurse it for three hours, so paying more upfront felt wrong. But we had a big heat wave and my apartment has no AC, so I gave it a shot on a Tuesday just to get out of the house. Turns out the pass covered refills all day, and the owner actually held my table when I ran out for lunch, which never happens. I ended up there from 9am to 4pm and spent less than I would have on two lattes and a pastry. The catch is they only sell 10 passes a day so you have to show up early. Has anyone else done one of these day pass things, or do you just stick to buying a drink and hoping nobody kicks you out?
