Tried a pour over with tap water instead of filtered and wow was I wrong

I always thought filtered water was a must for good coffee, but I ran out last week and used straight tap water from the sink in Chicago. The cup actually had more body and a cleaner finish, now I'm questioning everything. Anyone else get better results with unfiltered water?

Huh, that's a good point. Water really is a wild card, I've noticed that too. I remember once I was at a friend's place in rural Ohio and their well water made the coffee taste almost nutty, totally different from anything I get at home. So @colemartinez you're not alone, it's not just you being dumb about it. I think the whole filtered vs tap thing is way more complicated than we give it credit for, and its fun to just mess around and see what sticks.

yeah i used to be all about filtered water too, swore by it for years. but then i tried tap water from my parents place in a different city and it actually made the coffee taste way smoother. it's wild how much the mineral content can change things up, i honestly thought i was just being dumb about it. now i'm experimenting with different tap waters just to see what happens. kinda makes you wonder if we overthink this stuff.
