The barista who remembered my order for 8 months, then dropped a bomb on me
I hit the same drive-thru kiosk in Austin every Friday for a cortado, and this one barista, Dana, never wrote it down but always got it right. Last week she told me she was quitting to roast beans out of her apartment, and she handed me a bag of her first batch as a goodbye. She said, "Most people order what they think they should like, not what they actually enjoy." Has anyone else had a barista or shop owner give them a wake-up call like that?
Dang, that hit me right in the caffeine vein. I’m over here ordering black coffee every single morning because I think it makes me look tough and efficient, but deep down I’d kill for a vanilla latte with extra whip. Dana basically called me out without even meeting me, and now I’m questioning every life choice I’ve made at a counter. Maybe the real wake-up call is that I’ve been pretending to enjoy burnt beans for years just to seem cool. Guess I’ll go cry into a caramel macchiato now.
