Question about the first coffee you ever really liked
About three years ago, I was in a diner in Cleveland and the waitress just poured me a cup from their regular pot, nothing fancy. For some reason, that plain black coffee tasted amazing that morning, and it hit me that I'd been adding too much stuff to hide the taste. What was the first simple cup that made you actually enjoy drinking coffee?

Seriously? It's just coffee. People act like a basic cup is some life changing event. I've had plenty of decent diner coffee, but it's never made me rethink my whole life. Sometimes you're just tired and anything hot tastes good. I think we overthink these little moments way too much.

I read a food writer who said the best coffee is often the one you need the most. That was true for me with a basic gas station brew after a long night drive. It was just hot and bitter, but it was exactly right for that moment.

Was it just the situation? I mean, I get what @luna519 is saying, but I had that same thing happen at a truck stop near dawn once. It was just their basic coffee, but I was so cold and tired, and it tasted perfect, just hot and strong. Maybe it's just me, but that's the cup that made me stop adding sugar.
