PSA: My office is full of French press converts now
We had a plain drip machine in the break room for years. One guy started bringing his personal French press to work last month. Now half the floor has their own setup at their desk. I hear people comparing notes on water temp and steep time. It's led to more chats by the sink while we wait. I got curious and asked for tips on picking beans. The whole thing makes our mornings feel less rushed. Kind of nice how a simple brew method can spark new connections.

But isn't all that waiting just another time sink?

Well, that depends on what you're waiting for, right? If waiting means avoiding a bigger hassle later, isn't it worth it? I mean, think about line queues (you know, like waiting for coffee) where standing there feels like a waste, but if you didn't wait, you'd miss out. But maybe the real issue is how we see waiting, as lost time or as part of the process? What do you think makes waiting a time sink instead of just waiting?

What if the time sink feeling is just about control? Like, waiting in line for coffee is a choice, you can leave. But waiting on hold with customer service feels like a trap, you're stuck. That loss of control makes it feel wasted, even if it's the same amount of minutes. So maybe it's not the waiting itself, but whether you have any power in the situation.
