Old Chemex carafe finally cracked on me last week
That classic wood-collared Chemex I'd had since 2015 just split right down the side while I was rinsing it Tuesday morning... had to scramble with a backup French press to get my caffeine in before work. Anyone else stick with a brewer way past its prime or do you upgrade before things break?

Yeah those things are notorious for cracking without warning. Keep an eye on the rim where the wood collar sits, that's usually the first spot to go.

Did you notice any hairline cracks before it finally gave out?

About those hairline cracks you asked about, a buddy of mine had an old driveway that started showing tiny cracks near the edges about six months before the whole thing split. He said they looked like thin spider webs at first, really thin lines that you wouldn't even notice unless you were looking for them. Then after a real cold winter and some big rain, one morning he backed his truck out and heard this loud pop and saw a crack running all the way across the middle.
