Just realized I wasted $80 on a fancy coffee subscription
I signed up for this premium single origin subscription six months back. Paid $20 per bag and thought I was getting top quality stuff. Turns out my local roaster sells better beans for $12 a bag. I did a blind taste test with my neighbor last week and we both picked the cheap one every time. Felt pretty dumb when I added up the total loss around $80 over that time. Anyone else get tricked by fancy marketing on coffee subscriptions?

Oh man, that's such a bummer! My buddy Ryan got roped into one of those "micro-lot" Ethiopian subscriptions last year and he told me the same thing happened to him. He was all excited about the fancy packaging and the story about the farmer and everything, but when we did a little cupping session at his place (just us messing around with some mugs), the cheap local stuff totally won. I think he ended up giving the rest of the subscription bags to his office break room because he couldn't stand looking at them. The marketing on those things is so slick, it's like they're selling a lifestyle instead of just coffee, you know?

Heard that, Jake. My neighbor Lisa fell for the same hype and now her fancy bags are just planters.
