Hit 200 grams of beans roasted on my stovetop pan

Tried roasting a single batch in a cast iron skillet for the first time on Tuesday. Got way more smoke than I expected, set off the detector twice, but the beans came out surprisingly even after 11 minutes. Learned that a heavy pan holds heat better than my old air popper, plus the chaff cleanup is a pain. Anyone else roast with a regular pan or should I just accept the smoke alarm as part of the ritual?
