DAE have their grinder stall at 5:45am and fix it with a wooden spoon?
Last Tuesday I was half awake in my kitchen in Fresno, dumping beans into my hand grinder for the first pot of the day, and the burr just stopped cold with a full scoop still sitting in the hopper. I panicked and did the dumb thing first, which was shake it upside down over the sink and watch about $3 worth of beans hit the drain. Then I remembered a guy at a coffee shop on Blackstone told me to never force the handle when it locks up. So I pulled the top off, dumped the beans into a bowl, and tapped the side of the burr set with the handle of a wooden spoon. A single stuck bean popped right out and the whole thing spun free again. Turns out one oily little dark roast bean had wedged itself sideways in the burr and jammed everything. If this has happened to you, was it a bad bean or is my grinder on its way out?
