Unpopular opinion: that $200 bootcamp teaser course was the worst coding money I ever spent
I paid $200 for a 'coding kickstart' course back in January because the ad said I'd build three apps in two weeks. What I actually got was 40 videos of a guy reading slides, plus a Slack group where nobody answered questions after day two. I finished it and could not write a working loop without copying from the answer key. Then I found free stuff like freeCodeCamp and the Python docs, and it clicked in about 10 days because I was typing real code instead of watching. The worst part is I told two friends at my HVAC shop in Fresno to try it too, so that's $600 between us down the drain. If you're just starting, skip anything that costs money before you've finished a free intro track. Has anyone found a paid course that was actually worth it, or is it all just fancy slides?
Man, I gotta push back a little here. I've seen plenty of folks stall out on free stuff for months because there's no path and no one to nudge them, and a decent paid course gives you a set order to follow and a reason to show up. Your $200 guy sounds like a bad apple, not proof the whole thing is rigged, and one bad course doesn't tell you much about the rest. Some paid ones do have real projects and folks who answer questions, though your mileage may vary a lot on that. Also you and your friends now know what a bad one looks like, which honestly is worth something.
