Rant: I spent 3 weeks in a visual editor, then switched to typing code by hand and it clicked in 2 days
I started learning HTML and CSS about two months ago and the first thing I did was drag blocks around in one of those visual website builders. I felt like I was making progress, but every time something broke I had no clue why, and the code it spit out was a mess I couldn't read. Last week I opened a plain text editor and just typed out a simple page from scratch, header, paragraph, a couple divs, and suddenly I could see how everything connected. In 2 days of typing it out myself I learned more than 3 weeks of dragging boxes around. A friend who works at a shop in Austin told me the same thing, that the visual tools hide the parts you actually need to learn. Has anyone else jumped from a builder to raw code and felt it get easier fast?
