My cousin's kid asked me to help fix his broken Python game after school, and his question about 'if' statements made me stop and think.

He pointed at his screen and said, 'But why does the spaceship only move when I press the up arrow, not the W key?' and explaining that simple choice in his code made me realize how much we take basic logic for granted.

Isn't that just how games work though? The arrow keys are the default. Why would you even want to use W?

Honestly, using WASD just gives your left hand more keys to reach. Your pinky can hit shift for run and control for crouch without moving your whole hand off the arrow keys. It puts everything, like tab for map or E to use, right there. Once you get used to it, going back to arrows feels cramped for a lot of modern games.
