I thought copy pasting code from Stack Overflow was fine until my project hit 300 lines
Six months ago when I started learning Python I would grab snippets off Stack Overflow and just paste them in without reading them. It worked, stuff ran, I felt like a genius. Then last week my little budget tracker script hit 300 lines and it broke in like five different places at once. I spent almost 4 hours trying to fix it and every fix broke something else, because I had no clue what half the code was even doing. I finally sat down and rewrote the whole thing line by line, googling each piece until I actually got it, and man it was slow and annoying. But when I ran it the first time and it just worked, I literally sat there smiling at my screen like an idiot. So yeah, I changed my mind about copy pasting, it's fine for tiny stuff but it quietly wrecks you on bigger projects. How do you all handle that moment when you realize you don't really understand your own code?
