Hit 1000 lines in one script and felt proud, but is big code actually a bad sign?
I just finished a project for a small inventory tracker at my job. My script ended up around 1000 lines and I was honestly pumped. Took me three weeks of evenings after work. But then I showed it to a friend who codes for a living and he said, "If it's over 300 lines, you probably overcomplicated it." That stung. Now I'm doubting if reaching that milestone means I'm learning or just making a mess. I did split it into functions and comments, but it still feels huge for what it does. Is there a point where line count actually matters for a beginner, or is that gatekeeping? Anyone else hit a big number and then had someone tell you it was a red flag? Just curious how you all judge progress besides just getting it to run.
