Am I the only one who went from copy pasting every error into Google to actually reading the traceback?
Six weeks into learning Python I was stuck on a simple script that read a CSV of my bowling scores, and I probably pasted the same red error text into search 15 times before a guy on Discord just said read the bottom line out loud, dude. So I did, and it said the file name had a typo, and I felt like a total goof. Now I actually read the traceback from the bottom up first and I fix maybe 7 out of 10 things myself, which is way down from almost none in January. What finally made error messages click for you, or is pasting them still your whole system?
My big brain move early on was pasting the whole traceback into Google, all 30 lines of it, like search engines could read my mind. The worst part is I would scroll right past the answer because I had no clue which line even mattered. Someone finally told me the last line is the actual complaint and everything above is just the trail of breadcrumbs. Six months later I still catch myself copying an error before stopping and going nope, read it first, dummy. My record is fixing three bugs in a row without searching anything, and yes I told my cat about it.
