Watcher on the night shift at the Gadsden plant caught a spun collet before it ate the spindle
Last Tuesday around 2am I was running a batch of 6061 parts on the old VF-2 when the operator next to me flagged a weird chirp on his finish pass. He hit feed hold and pulled the tool, and the collet nut was cracked clean through, maybe 2 threads holding it on. If that thing had let go at 8000 rpm the holder would have walked right out of the taper. Now I torque check every collet nut at the start of my shift and log it on the board, takes 4 minutes. Anyone got a nut crack story that made them change their startup routine?
