Warning about coolant filter changes on Haas mills
Last month at a shop off Old Denton Road in Texas, I skipped a coolant filter swap for 3 weeks because I was behind on orders. The pump seized up and blew the VFD drive, cost the owner $2,100 to fix. How often do you guys actually replace those filters on your machines?

...and that's exactly how my boss ended up with a $2,100 reminder that coolant filters aren't optional decor. I hear you on being behind on orders though, it's so easy to just say "next week I'll do it" until your VFD decides it's done. Honestly I replace mine about every two to three months depending on how much the machine is running, but I've learned that lesson the hard way too. Nothing like a surprise $2k bill to make you religious about filter swaps!

Yeah the VFD meltdown is a classic. I started tagging a little sticker on the machine with the date I last swapped the filter, that way I can't just lie to myself about when I did it. Also helps when someone else on the shift tries to claim they changed it when they didn't. The $2,100 bill is rough but honestly it's cheaper than a full motor rebuild which is what you're really saving yourself from. Every three months is about right for me too but I'm in a dusty shop so sometimes it needs to be every two.
