Used to crank feeds and speeds to max until a job went sideways last Tuesday

I always ran my Haas as fast as I could get away with. Thought it was all about cycle time. Then I had a $600 4140 part walk out of the vise because my DOC was too aggressive. My tooling guy saw the crash and showed me how dropping the feed by 15% let me take a deeper cut without chatter. Now I baby the finish pass and let roughing do the heavy lifting. Anyone else get humbled by a part that cost more than your car payment?

Wait, dropping feed made it worse? That goes against everything my tooling guy told me after I chunked that part across the shop. Mind blown.

Dropping feed usually makes it worse, not better, unless you were already at the ragged edge.
