Unpopular opinion: setting tool offsets with a paper feeler is fine for most jobs

Last week I watched a guy spend 15 minutes with a Haimer trying to get a perfect Z offset on a Haas, while I just used a piece of copy paper and was cutting in 2 minutes. 3 years ago I bought a $200 probe setup and it sat in the drawer for a year before I sold it. For tight tolerance work I get it, but for basic aluminum parts with +- .005 tolerance, paper works. Anyone else skip the fancy touch probes?

Is it just me or do we all have that one friend who brags about how fast they can do something? Like pfft yeah okay, you finished your Haimer setup in 15 minutes, cool. But what's the actual point of bragging about speed when quality usually suffers for it? I see the same thing everywhere now, people racing through tasks just to say they did it fast instead of doing it right. It's like everyone forgot that taking your time and being careful actually matters more than the time on the clock. Speed is overrated, man, getting it right the first time saves way more headache down the road.
