Tried a cheap Chinese end mill from Amazon and it actually cut clean
Picked up a 10 pack of 1/4 inch carbide end mills for $18 off Amazon last month. Thought they'd be garbage but ran them on 1018 steel with a 0.02 doc and they held up fine for 3 parts. Anyone else had luck with those budget packs or just me?

10 pack for 18 bucks is wild. I bought a single name brand end mill for 40 bucks last year and it felt like throwing money away when I snapped it on a stupid mistake. The cheap ones usually chip on the first corner if the coating is crap but at that price you can toss them without crying. It's the same thing with drill bits and sandpaper - sometimes the bargain bin stuff does the job fine for small runs.

10 pack for 18 bucks is wild" is right lol. I did the same thing with a fancy $50 end mill last month, snapped it on a dumb mistake and just stared at the wall for a minute. At that price you're basically paying for the privilege of not hating yourself when you mess up.
