Saw a Haas UMC-750 running a full 5-axis job at the Denver tool show

The operator had the coolant lines routed through the spindle nose to keep the tool clear during a deep pocket roughing pass. Anyone run into issues with that setup on older machines?

Coolant through the spindle is a band-aid fix. Seen it fail on older VMCs. The seals wear out, pressure drops, and you get a mess. Then you're down for a rebuild instead of just using a normal coolant line. Not worth the risk on a machine with miles on it.

I used to be all for through-spindle coolant until I helped a buddy swap out a Cat40 spindle on a 2003 Haas. We spent a whole weekend replacing seals and chasing leaks, and the pressure never came back right. You spend more time mopping the floor than cutting parts. Now I just run a rigid coolant pipe clamped to the head. It's not as fancy but it works every time and doesn't leave me praying the rotary union holds up. Have you seen any spindle failures that started with coolant issues?
