My foreman swore by a 0.003 inch finish pass on our old Mazak, but I think it's a waste of time.
He told me it was the only way to get a good surface on 6061 aluminum, even for simple brackets. I tried skipping it on a run of 50 parts last week and the finish looked fine to me, saved over an hour. Has anyone else cut this corner, or is he right and I just got lucky?

Your foreman's right, you just got lucky.

Totally agree with the "just got lucky" thing. I saw a guy at my old site do something really dumb with a saw and walk away fine. The foreman said the same exact words. It was pure luck, not skill, and that kind of thinking gets people hurt later.
