Just realized the new machine shop in Toledo is running all their mills without coolant filters
I was dropping off a part for a buddy there and saw the coolant tanks were just open, no filtration at all. The guy running the floor said they 'saved a bunch' by skipping them, but I'm thinking that's gonna wreck their pumps and tools real fast. How many of you would ever run a shop without at least a basic filter setup?

Saving money on filters is one thing, but has anyone walked over to smell that tank after a week? The stench from rancid coolant will clear out the whole building. What's the plan for when the health inspector shows up because the neighbors complained?

Richard makes a fair point about the smell, but that only happens if you let the coolant go bad. A good maintenance schedule stops the rancid smell before it starts. You can save on filters without skipping cleanings, it's about being smart with the routine. The health inspector would probably be more upset about a total lack of care, not a choice in filter brand.

Our health inspector docked points for off-brand filters last month.
