Holding down the coolant nozzle vs letting it spray - which gives better surface finish?

Holding it down every time. letting it spray leaves uneven coverage and you get hot spots on the part surface. especially with aluminum the spray pattern just cant keep up with the heat buildup near the cutter. clamped down gives a steady stream that actually clears chips too.

Ngl I've ran it both ways a ton and I actually get way better results with a flood nozzle on a ball joint. Clamped lines always seem to lose pressure for me once the coolant heats up and gets all foamy. The spray might look uneven from the outside but as long as your nozzle is aiming right at the cutter entry point it keeps the heat away way better than a solid stream that bounces off the part. Plus with aluminum I've had clamped lines get knocked loose by chips more than once.
