Heard a shop foreman in Dayton say they're running a Haas VF-2 at 120% rapid override
He was bragging about cutting cycle times to meet a rush job. Said they've been doing it for three weeks straight. That machine is going to eat itself. Anyone else seen shops push their equipment way past the red line just to hit a deadline?

Okay but rapid override is just for positioning moves, not cutting. It makes the machine move faster between cuts but doesn't change the feed rate. So they're not really cutting any faster, just getting the empty moves done quicker. Still, running any part of the machine that hard for weeks is asking for trouble with the servos or way covers.

Exactly, that's the whole point. They're just saving time on air cuts. But you're right, pushing the rapids that high for a long job is still a lot of stress. The wear adds up over time. It might not break today, but it's not doing the machine any favors.

But machines are built to handle it, right?
