TIL my electric bill dropped by 30 bucks after I chose a heat pump over a new gas furnace

My old furnace died in January, and I had to pick between a new high-efficiency gas model or a heat pump. I live in Ohio, so I was worried about the cold, but I went with the heat pump after talking to a neighbor who has one. It handled our winter just fine, and my first full month's bill was way lower than I expected. Has anyone else in a colder state made this switch and seen real savings?

My uncle in Michigan spent two whole years telling me heat pumps were a scam for northern winters. He finally got one last fall and now he just mumbles about his utility bill while staring at his thermostat. I guess the real scam was his old gas furnace.

Wonder if his old furnace company was the one pushing the scam story.

Honestly that part about his uncle mumbling at the thermostat is so real. My neighbor was the exact same way, swore up and down his old oil system was fine. Tbh he got a heat pump installed last year and now he just casually mentions his heating bill in every conversation, like he's trying to trick himself into admitting he was wrong. It's wild how people get stuck defending a bad deal just because it's what they know. The gas company was for sure the one telling him it wouldn't work.

What's the actual number on his utility bill now?
