Switched to solar panels 2 years ago after calling them a scam. Here's what changed my mind.

I used to tell customers that solar was just a tax play for rich folks and never paid off for regular people. Then I did a roof replacement for a family in Phoenix last summer and saw their electric bills drop from $280 a month to about $40. They showed me the numbers. I ended up putting panels on my own house last spring. My payoff is looking closer to 7 years than the 15 I was expecting. What convinced you or made you skeptical about something climate related?

Fell for the solar scam myself for years, told everyone it was just greenwashing for the wealthy. Turns out I was the scammer of my own wallet. Did the math on my neighbor's setup last year and felt like a complete idiot for not doing it sooner. My electric company actually sent me a check last month for overproduction, which is pretty wild considering I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains all the time. Did you have to deal with any roof upgrades before installing or did your current setup handle it okay?

@river190 hit on something real with that overproduction check. My setup needed a few extra brackets since my roof's got a funky pitch, but nothing major. The numbers really do speak for themselves once you stop assuming it's all hype.
