Spent $150 on a fancy composting tumbler and now I'm back to a pile

Bought a dual-chamber tumbler six months ago thinking it would speed things up and keep the rats out. Turns out it just clumps into a wet mess unless you babysit it every single day. Anyone else ditch their gadget and go back to the old school ground pile?

Wait, is having to spin a tumbler every day really that big of a deal? It takes like 30 seconds. I've had one for a year and a half and it works fine as long as you keep the balance right with browns and greens. People act like they're trying to run a full-time compost operation instead of just tossing some kitchen scraps in a bin. Half the time when someone complains about a tumbler, they're probably just throwing in too much wet food without enough leaves or cardboard.
