My rain barrel setup flooded the neighbor's yard during that storm in Aurora, and I had to fix it with a drill and a hose
Two days ago a storm dumped about 2 inches of rain on my block in Aurora, and my rain barrel overflow hose came loose from the elbow joint. Water poured straight into the grass strip between our houses for maybe 20 minutes before my neighbor knocked and asked me to come out back. I had used a hose clamp from a $3 pack at the hardware store, but the clamp slipped off the ribbed fitting under the pressure. I drilled a small hole through the elbow and the hose, ran a zip tie through it, then put the clamp back on top. The overflow still ran into his yard, just less, so at least it was not a puddle anymore. This weekend I'm digging a short gravel trench to send the overflow toward the alley instead. Has anyone rigged a rain barrel overflow that actually holds up in a real downpour, and what did you use to keep the connection on?
