My neighbor's rain barrel setup changed my mind about saving water

I was talking to my neighbor Dave last weekend about his garden, and he mentioned he saved $60 on his water bill this summer just from one 50-gallon rain barrel. I always thought those things were a hassle or took too much space. But he showed me how simple it was, just a gutter diverter and a spigot. Has anyone here tried linking multiple barrels together for more storage?

@park.iris $60 is nothing when you factor in the cost of the barrel, the diverter kit, and all the PVC fittings to link them together. Tbh you'd spend that much just buying the second barrel and connectors, so it's basically break-even for the first year. Plus standing water gets funky if you don't use it fast enough, and then you're dealing with mosquito screens and cleaning sludge out of the bottom. I tried the whole setup last summer and ended up just sticking to my hose.

$60 savings" on one barrel? Dang. I'd link two together in a heartbeat for double that.
