My neighbor swore cutting back on beef one meal a day would shrink my footprint, 6 months in and the math surprised me
Back in April my next door neighbor Deb, who has been composting and biking everywhere for like a decade, told me the single easiest climate change was dropping beef from just one meal a day. I kind of rolled my eyes because I figured one burger swap wouldnt move the needle at all. Well I stuck with it anyway, mostly to shut her up, and after 6 months I plugged my grocery receipts into a carbon calculator and the number came out to about 480 pounds of CO2 saved, which honestly floored me. The weird part is I barely noticed the change, I just do beans or chicken at lunch now and save like $30 a week on groceries too. Now I am wondering if the next step is swapping my gas water heater, but those run $1,200 installed and I am not sure the savings math works out yet. Anyone here actually done that swap, and did the emissions drop feel worth the upfront cost?
