My heat pump lost 20% efficiency after one dirty filter

Last month in Portland I skipped cleaning the filter for 8 weeks and my electric bill jumped from $140 to $175. Checked the unit and the filter was caked with dust, airflow was clearly choked. Swapped it out and within a week the run times dropped back to normal. Anyone else track their filter changes against their monthly kWh numbers?
