I finally stopped rolling my eyes at my neighbor's rain barrel, then I saw her July water bill
My next door neighbor in Fort Collins has been collecting rain in two blue barrels for a year and I thought it was just a quirky hobby until she showed me her July bill was $31 while mine hit $94. That $63 gap on one month got me reading up on how much treated city water we pour on lawns and gardens that rain could handle for free. Has anyone here set up a barrel system, and does the water actually stay clean enough for a veggie garden?
That $63 gap on one month is wild. Rain water is actually better for plants than city water since it doesn't have the chlorine and stuff. Just keep the barrel covered so mosquitoes don't move in.
