Hit 100 pounds of food waste composted in my backyard bin yesterday
I started composting last March with a simple tumbler bin I got on sale. Just tossed in veggie scraps, coffee grounds, and some dry leaves every couple days. Checked the weight last weekend and it came out to 103 pounds total since I started. That got me thinking about how much methane that would've made in a landfill. Anyone else weigh their compost pile just for fun?

Wait, are you secretly weighing your trash can with a bathroom scale like I do (please say yes)? I tried that once but my scale freaked out and just gave me an "Err" message, probably judging my life choices. Still, hitting 100 pounds is legit inspiring for those of us who occasionally forget to turn our bin for a week and regret it.

Definitely been there with the scale error thing, lol. It's like the universe is judging us for being too invested in our trash game. But honestly weighting your garbage is just part of a bigger pattern I've noticed where we turn everything into a competition or a metric to track. Like we can't just throw stuff away anymore without making it a personal challenge or a way to feel better about ourselves. Next thing you know people will be timing how fast they fill up a bag or something. It's kinda weird but also hilarious how we find these random ways to measure our lives.

My buddy Dave started weighing his compost bin too and it got real weird for him. He kept a little notebook in the kitchen just so he could track every single banana peel and coffee filter. One time his wife caught him arguing with the scale because it said 47 pounds and he swore it should be 48. Honestly that kind of dedication is what makes hitting 100 pounds such a solid milestone though. It shows you really stuck with it through the soggy winter months and the stinky summer ones too.
